Madam Justice Naima Haider
The 6 Lecture in the Think Legal Bangladesh Lecture Series will be delivered by Madam Justice Naima Haider Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 28 January 2017at 11 a.m. at the EMK Center, Dhanmondi, Dhaka on the topic: “Legal Identity, Civil Registration and Vital Statistics
Justice Haider went to Holy Cross School and College. She did her LL.B (Honours) and LL.M from the Department of Law of the University of Dhaka and obtained First Class First position. She did her second Masters in Law from Columbia University, New York, USA. Also a fellow of Harvard University, Justice Haider obtained a Diploma in International Cooperation in Criminal Matters from Oxford University, in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of California, Berkeley and attended Commonwealth Lawyers’ Course under the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London. She received Javier Perez De Cuellar Award for outstanding academic excellence while at the Columbia University.

Justice Naima Haider started her career as a Lecturer and then as an Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University. She switched over to the legal profession and started practicing law. She served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Attorney General in 1998 and became the Deputy Attorney General in 2007. She was later elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division in 2009.<br /> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Justice Naima Haider has to her credit a number of articles published in various Law journals. She has also participated in many International Seminars, Workshops and Law Conferences including International Women Judges` Conference held in Seoul, South Korea, Judicial Development Programme in South Korea and Women and Justice Conference, New Delhi. She has worked with several social work groups in areas of empowerment of women and children’s issues.
Justice Haider is the only daughter of renowned jurist, Late Chief Justice Badrul Haider Chowdhury and Mrs. Anwara Haider. Justice Haider is the mother of two sons : her elder son, Saquib, an MBA from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada is presently working in Toronto and her younger son, Naimul is following in the footsteps of his esteemed grandfather and mother and currently enrolled in the LL.M programme at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
